Luiz Marcos

Winner of the “Mapping of the New Brazilian Music” awarded by the Itaú Bank in 1992 for recording the CD “Ziriguidum do Além,” in which he plays acoustic guitar with percussionist and composer Renato Mattos, a renowned musician from Bahia, Luiz Marcos Bianchi Leite de Vasconcelos began his professional career writing songs, playing guitar and singing with the band “Duplo Etéreo” in Rio de Janeiro in 1970, whose members included Lourenço Baeta (today a member of the "Boca Livre" band) and Herman Torres (who later on set up the band “Gang 90 e Absurdetes”). The Duplo Etéreo band was mentioned in the Rolling Stone magazine as one of the bands that made the history of rock music in Rio de Janeiro.

In 1973, he recorded two albums with the band “Children of God,” the first of the which was number one in the hit parade in Brazil for over six months for the song “Aleluia,” sung by Luiz Marcos. The band included guitarist Jeremy Spencer from Fletwood Mac, who was awarded the prize of best slide guitarist in the world for two consecutive years.

In 1980, Luiz met Thomas Brokaw, a former member of the “Black Zé” band, with whom he set up the “Makrossom” band, which performed for many years in alternative and spiritualist events in different cities in Brazil. This phase is registered in the CD “Sinais.” He also played with Udiana Bandha on different occasions.

In 1989, he set up a new “Double Etéreo” in Brasília with renowned musicians from the city: lead guitarist Haroldinho Mattos, drummer Rodrigo Galvão, and bassist Betão, with Luiz Marcos playing acoustic guitar, singing, and writing the songs played by the band. The band performed in different spaces in Brasília, such as in the Gate’s Pub and Feitiço Mineiro, for three years.

In 1992, he set up the band “Midnight Cowboy” with his old partner Thomas Brokaw and other musicians from Brasília, including Leander Motta, Haroldinho Matos and Pedro Martins, who were also members of the band “Oficina Blues.”

Since 1995, Luiz Marcos has been performing regularly with Thomas Brokaw (bass guitar, André Kassis (drums) and Haroldinho Mattos (lead guitar) in show and festivals in Brasília, Pirenópolis and Goiânia.
